We had a pretty action-packed Dothan Eagle for Wednesday.
I wrote about Troy making changes to its starting lineup in hoops (blogged about it Monday, but have to keep telling myself that many print and even internet readers don't read or don't know about the blog).
Some notes from Pike and Barbour counties because I know plenty of readers live there:
**Raymond White, longtime very successful coach at Barbour County for basketball, won his 700th game as a head coach.
**Pike County promoted Fred Holland to head football coach and athletics director, from Ken Rogers.
**Also, another good read from Ken Rogers on Charles Henderson head coach Hugh Fountain retiring from the school where he's expected to make the move to Escambia Academy. CHHS went through a lot of off-the-field tragedies this season.
Around the Sun Belt, North Texas lost two of its key freshmen, including point guard Chris Jones, to academics. So, forget about UNT challenging for a Sun Belt title. You can read it from Brett Vito HERE.
Troy would have had a good chance to win at UNT without Jones, who nearly triple-doubled vs. the Trojans. Bad luck in the timing of the ineligibility and you wonder why it took all the way to Jan. 17 to find out. That was a game where Troy and UNT were tied, but the Mean Green shot something like 70 percent in the second half and Troy, like it has in most league games, fell apart.
