Troy hosts FAU tonight in basketball. I wrote THIS STORY on forward Justin Wright (Troy University photo), Troy's second-leading scorer at 10.3 points per game.
He'd be doing a little bit better, I think, if he hadn't hurt his back in September, and that's the focus of the story. However, most people thought he wouldn't even be able to play this year, but a doctor told him that if he could handle the pain, he could play. Wright missed the entire fall conditioning session, so isn't really in as good of shape as he could be in, and doesn't have the spring to his step that he had before the injury.
But he's playing well enough, and somebody's got to step up and be a go-to scorer along with Will Weathers, who has struggled as of late. I actually get the feeling Weathers will come out and have a big game against FAU, but Troy's going to have to guard FAU's shooters. The Owls have struggled this year, but still have some talent on the perimeter, and will get open shots against Troy's 2-3 zone.
A key player for FAU will be Kore White, a talented forward who was called out by his coach after a terrible performance against MTSU last week.
***Around Pike County, Pike Liberal Arts standout Nick McLaughlin was named AISA Lineman of the Year. David Mundee's story indicates that McLaughlin is looking to play baseball at the next level, and Troy has offered. However, he could get drafted and go pro. As you saw earlier, Troy commitment Terris Lewis was named 1A Lineman of the Year, and also Elba standout Michael Lindsey, a Troy commitment, was a finalist for 2A Back of the Year, but didn't win it. Daphne running back T.J. Yeldon, who signed with Alabama, was named Mr. Football.
