Two future Trojans going for state title

Two Trojan commits - wide receiver Brandon Brooks and cornerback Shaquille Beverly - are going for a state championship tonight as First Coast plays Manatee in the Class 7A Florida state championship.

The game is at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando at 7 p.m. If you read this blog and live in Florida and have SUN Sports, you should be able to watch the game on that channel.

This game is filled with players who are major college prospects. HERE is a look from the Bradenton Herald, which is where Manatee is. First Coast is near Jacksonville.

HERE is a capsule.

If you want to listen to the game, go HERE. That seems to be from the Manatee side.

The FHSAA web site is HERE and a link to live stats and other radio can be found HERE.

As far as video, HERE is a link, but not sure if that's live or delayed.

Beverly and Brooks were among Troy's first commits, and those two plus Bartram Trail High receiver Bobby Walker were all recruited by Jeff Beckles and are all three-star recruits on rivals.com

Brooks already has more than 1,000 yards receiving. What's impressive is that he's done that with a freshman quarterback.

Here's the good thing about Shaq Beverly - he is graduating high school early and is slated to enroll at Troy in January. Remember how that helped current freshman Zach Johnson earn a spot in Troy's offensive line rotation and eventually become the starting right guard after Jacob Creech got hurt.

I'd say after 3-9, most, if not all, spots will have wide open competition and since spring practices move at a slower pace and allow for much more learning, then Beverly has a great chance to play as a true freshman.
