The rumor mill got fired up when Illinois defensive coordinator Vic Koenning, a former Troy defensive coordinator, made some comments about Troy.
Go to THIS VIDEO and go to the 12-minute mark, and he mentions Troy, but no job is open at Troy. One of the Illinois reporters tweeted out that Koenning mentioned an open job at Troy, but if you listen to the comments, he didn't say that a job was open at Troy.
Koenning was offered to stay on as DC at Illinois and has until Wednesday to make up his mind. He did speak about the coaching brotherhood at Troy and remains in contact with Troy coaches.
"Nobody's been fired," Troy head coach Larry Blakeney said. "Vic is a friend and I talk to him as far as consulting goes, but we're just talking as friends."
"We start evaluating from the top and my job is the first to be evaluated provided I'm still in charge, and then everybody else. It's not different then after any season and it certainly isn't different when you go 3-9."
I did ask Blakeney about Neal Brown, his former offensive coordinator who is in the mix for the Arkansas State head coaching job.
"In my opinion, Neal is as ready as any young guy can be to be a head coach," Blakeney said.
But, to sum it up, Troy's assistant coaching staff is still in place.
Blakeney "Nobody has been fired"
