SUPER BOWL

Tuesday links

Troy basketball is back at home tonight against Southern Utah. It's a rematch of a game that Troy won 80-76 in Utah to start a 3-game win streak. Head coach Don Maestri said he expects the Thunderbirds (4-5), of the Summit League and 0-4 on the road, to give the Trojans some different looks offensively and defensively.

Troy (4-5) is losers of two straight and Southern Utah is losers of three straight.

But I did write a feature on guard/forward Emil Jones, who has impressed since moving into the starting lineup. If Jones had stuck with football, he could be starting at QB for Marshall in tonight's Beef O'Brady's Bowl against FIU.

But he took a chance with basketball, his first love, and it paid off with a scholarship offer from Troy. If Troy hadn't signed him early, he would have made it to a bigger school because he really blew up in his second year of JUCO. Jones starred in football, basketball and baseball throughout high school and was going to go to Southern Miss to play football, but grades sent him to Pearl River CC.

You can read the story HERE.

Also, point guard Will Weathers is on the Cousy Award watch list.
