First Coast falls/Addison shining with Colts

Not a good day for First Coast High School, losing 40-0 in the Class 7A state finals in Florida to Manatee.

But the two Troy commits had some good numbers.

Wide receiver Brandon Brooks had 3 catches for 123 yards, including a long gain of 79 (when was the last time a Troy receiver had a 79-yard reception? sure wasn't in '11). Brooks' playmaking ability will be a welcome sight for the Trojans.

Cornerback Shaquille Beverly had seven tackles.

Box score HERE.

**On a non-Troy note, it was neat to see Jonas Randolph of Mars Hill College win the Harlon Hill Award for the country's best Division II football player. Randolph, a running back, graduated from nearby Daleville High School and, in 2007, when he was a senior, I wrote a feature on him. Never knew where he ended up, until earlier today. A big assist to Kim Allen at WTVY for alerting me when he called to say Randolph was a finalist and we were wondering what number he wore at Daleville.

***Former Trojan defensive end Mario Addison, who had a phenomenal senior year in 2010 as a starter, made the Bears out of camp as an undrafted free agent, but was cut during the middle of the season and quickly picked up by the Colts. Check THIS STORY out on how well Addison is playing for the Colts.
