Spoke with head coach Bobby Pierce about the Trojans' matchup with Alabama tomorrow.
Pierce said they got outplayed at South Alabama over the weekend. "I thought it was a hard-fought series by both teams. For the most part, they just outplayed us."
Troy's four errors led to a 16-4 loss on Sunday, but the pitching didn't exactly inspire anyone. Ryan Brady, who will get the start against Alabama tomorrow, will have a chance to pitch his way into weekend contention. Cass Abercrombie started on Sunday, but wasn't as effective as he was against East Carolina about two weeks ago.
Three injuries to worry about for the time being. CF Clay Holcomb got hit in the wrist by a pitch Saturday, and they're waiting on X-Rays. I'd say he's questionable for the time being. Saturday starting pitcher Jimmy Hodgskin took a line drive off the glove thumb, and they're waiting on results there. Chris Fisher, who pitched in relief on Sunday, took a hard grounder off the shin. Pierce said the first thought with Hodgskin and Fisher is that it's just a bone bruise and hopefully not a fracture.
Troy has been snake-bit with injuries this season. LHPs Ryan Sorce and Shane McCain are out with arm surgery. C/DH Blake Martz was ruled ineligible for an NCAA rules violation. 1B/DH Kyle Brown had season-ending hip surgery. RHP Adam Purdy broke his foot, and now these three guys.
