Saturday practice notes/video

Nice, spirited Saturday morning spring practice. I can't say I've been to even most spring practices since 2005, but this one just had a lot more intensity than in years past.

This was Troy's fourth practice, and they did some 11-on-11 full-pad scrimmage work at the end with referees. No stats were kept, but Corey Robinson led the team down the field on one drive and he kept it and scored on a 22-yard run. Before that, he had thrown an interception to Bryan Willis, who stepped in front of an underthrown ball to Jamel Johnson.

Deon Anthony took snaps with the next unit, and Dallas Tidwell got a lot of work. It seems like those three are out in front, though Luke Barnes is in the mix as well. Barnes was at a wedding today. Offensive coordinator Kenny Edenfield said that Robinson is well out in front of the rest of the guys right now, and the other three are battling for what seems like a backup spot.

The first unit defense, from what I saw, had a defensive line of Tony Davis-Aaron Williams-John Clark, linebackers of Jacoby Thomas-Brannon Bryan-Brandon Powe-Dimitri Miles, corners of Bryan Willis-Ethan Davis and safeties Brynden Trawick-Cam Hudson. Others who I saw rotate with the 1s, and there could have been more, were Wayland Coleman-Dancer in place of Miles and Chris Davis/Jeremy Spikner in place of the corners.

You've got to remember that Kanorris Davis will be in one spot when he returns from injury - probably in the spot where Miles was playing today, but we'll see as spring goes on.

Injuries pile up as spring practice wore on. Aside from guys out that I have already written on, the following were out or got hurt, and I'm not sure about the specific injuries on all of them: OL Cody Woodiel (toe), OL Zach Johnson (sprained neck), DB Chris Pickett, WR Corey Johnson, DB Barry Valcin and DB Chris Pickett, to name a few. Some guys who have already been out include OL Kyle Wilborn (shoulder), LB Kanorris Davis (foot), OL Jimbo Arnold (foot)

Finally, here is some video with new cornerbacks coach Julius Brown.
