Troy picked up a wide receiver commit when Shannon Smith of Macon, Ga., (Westside High School) committed to sign with the Trojans next February.
"When I went to visit, Troy made me feel like I was at home and part of a family," Smith said. "That's what I was looking for in a school. They also had my major (physical therapy)."
Smith, 6-foot-2 and 195 pounds, caught 32 passes for 606 yards and seven touchdowns last year. Several schools were in on Smith this spring. Troy was actually Smith's fourth offer, and he earned offers from Colorado State, Georgia State, Western Kentucky and Charlotte.
One of the places Smith camped at was at Vanderbilt, and the Vanderbilt rivals.com site said this about Smith on twitter @VandySportscom: "Smith was 1 of the top WR's at Vandy's camps this summer. #Underrated"
Smith visited Troy with his family in June and plans to come back for a visit during preseason camp in August. He committed on Friday.
"I thought about it and decided I wanted my recruitment to be over so I can focus on my senior year and our season," Smith said.
Smith was recruited to Troy by cornerbacks coach Julius Brown.
"He's a good person and I feel like he can teach me to be a man," Smith said. "Not just him, but all the coaches."
