Local TV engineer John Bennett dies at 65

There's sad news to report this morning as John Bennett, who some of you will know as WEVV's chief engineer, has passed away.

Bennett, who was 65, died early Sunday morning at the VNA Charlier Hospice Center in Evansville.

He had worked for both WEHT and WEVV, where he spent six years as the station's chief engineer, and oversaw the station's conversion from analog to digital transmission.  He also designed "The Phoenix," WEVV's remote trailer, which you can see here.

Bennett also spent 23 years as an instructor at ITT Technical Institute, where he was the chair of the School of Information Technology, and was a ham radio operator, avid cyclist, and amateur photographer.

He is survived by his mother and several cousins.

Visitation will be Tuesday from 3 to 8 p.m. CDT Tuesday at Boone Funeral Home East Chapel, 5330 Washington Ave.  Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. CDT Wednesday at at Trinity Anglican Church at Shepherd of the Hills Lutheran Church, 3600 Oak Hill Road.  Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery in Newburgh.
