WNIN's David Dial
WNIN's president and GM to step down next June after 30 years at the helm

Last night, my fellow Courier & Press columnist, Roger McBain, broke the news that WNIN's president and general manager, David Dial, has announced that he will retire in June 2013.

I've only met David in person on one occasion, but I can tell you that I have long held nothing but the most profound respect for him and what he's done for and with WNIN.

In his column, Roger mentions that when David started at Channel 9 and FM 88 back in January 1983, the TV station aired just seven hours of programming per day - with the radio station on the air even less than that - from an old, inadequate studio building (a converted school in McCutchanville), no less.  But, with David's strong leadership, that changed.

With a move downtown to the historic Carpenter Home, much hard work and a vision to provide programming that educates, informs and entertains, WNIN has matured into a 24/7 operation that serves its viewers and listeners both on air and online, and the stations have become a valuable, irreplaceable asset in the community.  That, in my opinion, will be a lasting and fitting tribute to David Dial's 30 years in this, our little part of the world.

We don't yet know who will take over the reins at the Carpenter Home next year.  One thing's for certain in my mind, though:  It won't be easy to replace David Dial.

Thank you, David!
