Troy hosts FAU

Four weeks remain in the regular season and three of the weekends are at home for Troy's baseball team. It's worst against first here, as the first-place Owls come in looking to extend their conference lead while the last-place Trojans, at 6-12 in the Sun Belt, tries to make up some ground. Troy is just one game behind three other teams in conference play - ULL, ULM and UALR. Troy does have series left at ULL and vs. ULM.

Troy is is coming off a win over Alabama A&M where Ivan Carter made his collegiate debut and got his first win. Carter has been with the program for a couple of years and with Troy's available arms seeming to decrease by the week, maybe he'll get another few innings under his belt before the season ends.

I won't be able to make any of the games and will just post a recap on Sunday. With high school spring sports winding down and some professional events deciding they want to come to Dothan, all hell breaks loose for our four-man sports staff. I'll spend my third straight Friday at Wicksburg in the second round of the playoffs where Lee Hyde and Wicksburg take on Drew Miller's G.W. Long squad. Hyde and Miller are former Trojans.

I think Troy can get at least a game in this series, but it might just be one game as FAU has shown that it's a big step above the rest in Sun Belt baseball this year. If the Trojans get swept, the road to getting back in the mix for a Sun Belt Tournament bid just really gets harder, especially with a road trip to ULL next week and Troy never does well there for some reason. The top 8 out of 10 teams qualify for the tournament. I harp that because last year, the No. 8 seed in UALR, won the conference tournament and got an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament despite being several games under .500.

This weekend, you are pulling for Western Kentucky (hosts ULM). UALR and ULL play each other in Little Rock, so maybe the best thing for Troy is for one team to sweep the other.
