Saturday NFL Draft update

The first Trojan to get picked was defensive ends Jonathan Massaquoi, who went at pick 164 in the fifth round to the Atlanta Falcons. Massaquoi is from around Atlanta, so good fit for him at least on a personal level.

Check back later as this blog post will surely get updated.

Here's what ESPN Draft expert Todd McShay had to say about Massaquoi's pick, on the ESPN NFL Draft.

"He grew on me. At first I started watching tape and they're dropping him on run plays and not using him properly. He's at his best when he can get off the line of scrimmage and get after the quarterback. He's got long arms. He doesn't have great top-end speed. But he ran pretty well in terms of that 10-yard split, which is far more important."

"The scheme did not take advantage of his skills. I'll say it again. I think Massaquoi has a chance to exceed expectations at the next level if used properly."

Massaquoi ran a 1.63 on his 10-yard split, which McShay was on the upper echelon on defensive ends.

***8:15 p.m. update. Strength coach Richard Shaughnessy said James Brown, who surprisingly went undrafted, has agreed to terms as an undrafted free agent with the Chicago Bears, but Brown has not been able to be reached for comment.

On Massaquoi, Shaughnessy said: "He's ecstatic about even going in the fifth round. His agent has ties to Atlanta and he's well-respected. He's got plenty of upside and he'll work his butt off. He just wanted an opportunity and now he's got it."

Massaquoi also hasn't returned messages yet.
