UPDATE, 7:30 a.m. FRIDAYDisclosure News Online reports that the charges against Williams stem from trusts that he set up for an elderly Mt. Carmel couple more than 20 years ago and, over the years, allegedly used for his own personal gain.  A PDF of the indictment is available.

The Mt. Carmel Daily Republican Register reports that a Wabash County radio station owner has been arrested by federal authorities and faces 40 federal charges.

Kevin C. Williams, whose Wabash Communications owns but no longer operates WVMC-1360 AM in Mt. Carmel (see editor's note below), was to have been arraigned before U.S. District Court Judge J. Phil Gilbert in Benton, Ill. today.  There's no word yet on the possibility of bond.

The newspaper reports that Williams faces mostly wire fraud charges, although other allegations have also been leveled against him:
According to the detailed indictment in Williams’ case, which is 13-CR-400019-JPG, the first 35 counts allege wire fraud; count 36 cited allegation concerning monetary transactions with an individual; and counts 37-40 concern authorization.
More details may be released by the U.S. Attorney's office as early as Friday.

EDITOR'S NOTE WVMC's FCC license was revoked in May 2010 when it was returned to the Commission by someone with no connection to the station.  Wabash had entered into a sale and time brokerage agreement with W. Russell Withers prior to the license cancellation and, at last check, Withers was still operating the station and attempting to straighten out the license situation, which remains unresolved nearly three years later.
