Club's 66-year tradition of helping Tri-State children continues
On Sunday, WEHT Local will produce the annual Santa Clothes Club Telethon at Washington Square Mall in Evansville.
The telethon starts at noon Central time and continues until 6 p.m. that day, with a goal of raising over $250,000 to help clothe needy children in the Tri-State area.
You can help this year by making a donation. It will cost $100 to completely clothe one child. Each year, the Santa Clothes Club helps 2,500 to 3,000 area children, and with your help the Club can continue its long and respected tradition of helping the Tri-State's neediest kids.
Founded in 1946 by Dick Anderson, then-sports editor for The Evansville Press, and Don Menke, then-manager of WEOA, the Club and its telethon have earned a special place of honor in Tri-State history. Since 1953, the Telethon has aired each year on WEHT, and in just the past 30 years, more than $6 million in donations has helped provide clothes for nearly 79,000 children.
DID YOU KNOW?$100 will completely clothe one boy or girl with an outfit from Walmart, which includes 1 pair of jeans, 1 shirt/top, 9 pair of underwear, 10 pair of socks, gloves, gym shoes and hooded coat.
