No Troy story in the Friday paper, as I was working on other stories. I am confident I have some Pittsburgh Pirate fans and also Slocomb Red Top fans who read this blog, so check out THIS story on pitcher Clay Holmes, who is doing well in his first professional season.
Earlier this week, Ken Rogers was covering the Paul Finebaum appearance in Dothan, and Paul had some great words about Larry Blakeney when asked:
“I think he’s one of the most underrated coaches in college football history. I really think the job he’s done – and I know last year was unusual – but it’s been a phenomenal story. I’m a huge Larry Blakeney fan. He took the fall for coach (Pat) Dye and for others and it did cost him. He undoubtedly would have been at an SEC school, probably Mississippi State, maybe somewhere else. … I think not only would he have gotten a job, he would have been really good. He has a way with young people that I think is rare in college athletics. Whenever he leaves Troy and people stop and think of what he did and what he’s built there, it’s going to be one of the more amazing stories in college football history at that level. It’s a phenomenal story.”

The Sun Belt website has a new look, with assistance from XOS Digital.
From the Birmingham News, UAB quarterback Jonathan Perry, who started the game last year at Troy, is getting pushed by redshirt freshman Austin Brown.
Troy's next (and maybe only other) scrimmage this fall is Saturday at 11 a.m. Be there, but if you're not, I'll provide updates on twitter.
