Fifth annual SIRIS Classic Vinyl & Media Sale set for Sept. 8-9

Sale to benefit Southern Illinois' radio information service for individuals who are blind or print impaired will be held at Carbondale's University Mall

Want to take a trip down memory lane with classic sounds, games, movies and equipment? Grab hold of retro items at the fifth annual SIRIS Classic Vinyl & Media Sale. The two-day event will be held on Saturday, September 8 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. and Sunday, September 9 from noon to 6 p.m. inside the University Mall, 1237 East Main in Carbondale, Ill., across from the food court.

The Southern Illinois Radio Information Service (SIRIS) and WSIU Public Radio are co-hosting the sale with the University Mall for the fifth straight year. This year’s sponsors also include the SIU Credit Union in Carbondale, Energy, and Marion; Holz Tool Supply in Mt. Vernon; Wright Do-It Center in Murphysboro; and the Du Quoin Public Library in Du Quoin.

Patrons can expect to find an array of items to suit their individual tastes. Record albums start at $1.00 each, while collectible albums will be offered at a more competitive price. Musical genres include rock ‘n’ roll, blues, country, R&B, pop, and much more. Games will include Nintendo Game Boys, discs for Xbox 360, and educational computer programs for children. Electronic gear like turntables, cassette players, and stereo systems also will be available for purchase.

All proceeds from the sale will benefit SIRIS, a radio information service for individuals who are blind or print impaired. A service of WSIU Radio and SIU-Carbondale, SIRIS provides recordings of newspapers, magazines, book reviews, and other literature. Special radios are provided free of charge to qualified users. SIRIS is supported in part by the United Way and the Illinois State Library.

Questions about volunteer opportunities or the sale should be directed to Vickie Devenport at (618) 453-6148, vickie.devenport@wsiu.org or by calling SIRIS at (618) 453-2808.
