Nashville's NewsChannel5 begins work to upgrade OTA signal

Million-dollar project aims to improve reception for viewers

Nashville CBS affiliate WTVF-NewsChannel5 is working on a new project that will benefit its over-the-air (OTA) viewers.

Expected to cost more than a million dollars, some important changes and improvements to WTVF's transmission facilities will improve the station's signal to viewers in the Nashville market and as far north as southern Kentucky (nearly to the southern edge of the Tri-State), putting it back into areas where it's been difficult to impossible to receive NewsChannel5 since the digital transition was completed a little over three years ago.

Work began in earnest on July 26 and kicked into high gear on Friday, so viewers may lose the station at times as work on WTVF's tower northwest of Nashville proceeds over the next several days.

The station has posted information and updates on a special page on its website, on Facebook, and is also updating on Twitter for those who are interested in keeping tabs on what's happening, and when you'll need to rescan your TV.  You can also sign up for email updates at the website.

EDITOR'S NOTE:  Before the transition was complete, it wasn't unusual for your editor to receive WTVF at night here in Owensboro during the summer months; in the past three years, I've only seen it once, despite several other Nashville stations (usually WKRN, WZTV and WUXP, and sometimes others) coming in perfectly.  I'll let you know if this project results in occasional reception here again.
