WAY Media's W267BM-101.3 FM, which is simulcasting The Cromwell Group's country station WKCM-1160 AM (Hawesville, Ky.) is now on the air and officially licensed.
The translator, which broadcasts from rural western Breckenridge County, Ky. and is licensed to Tell City, Ind., is a move-in from Blackrock, Ky. (near Leitchfield), where it was licensed as W265CK and broadcast at 100.9 on the FM dial.
W267BM has an effective radiated power of 99 watts, well under the maximum 250 allowed for an FM translator, but enough to cover a pretty broad swath from Cloverport to Hardinsburg and probably a good way beyond, if other FM translators are any indication. Indeed, it took some doing, but I was able to pull it in on the southwest side of Owensboro, although I had to fight with WMSK-FM to get it.
With the addition of the new signal, WKCM becomes the ninth AM station in the Tri-State area to get an FM presence on the air. A tenth translator, W253BF-98.5 FM, has been authorized to retransmit Evansville station WEOA-1400 AM (1400 The Pump), but it is not yet on the air.
