Troy senior running back Chris Anderson is academically ineligible, spokesperson Adam Prendergast confirmed Wednesday night. This marks three Trojan players declared academically ineligible since the end of the summer semester. Wide receiver Jamel Johnson and defensive tackle John Clark are also sidelined because of grades.
Anderson, a fifth-year senior, had missed most of practice because of a personal matter back home. He had 365 yards from scrimmage and two touchdowns last year as the third-string running back and 511 yards with four touchdowns as a sophomore in 2010.
This leaves senior Shawn Southward, senior D.J. Taylor (who is out from heat issues) and junior Khary Franklin as the top backs, with senior T.J. Mitchell, redshirt freshman Daron White and true freshman Brandon Burks, in some order, behind them.
