U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell, the Republican minority leader in the Senate, will be this week's guest on KET's One to One with Bill Goodman to discuss the upcoming 2012 election.
McConnell, who is serving his fifth term as Kentucky senator, has said the 2012 election for control of the Senate will be close. This fall 33 Senate seats are up for election. Currently the Democrats hold a slim 51-47 majority, with two independents who usually vote with the Democrats.
McConnell said in 2010 that "the single most important thing we want to achieve is for President Obama to be a one-term president." He recently criticized Treasury Secretary Tim Geithner for a statement two years ago saying the economy was on the road to recovery.
The senator gave his endorsement to Mitt Romney, the presumptive GOP presidential nominee, in April 2012. If McConnell becomes majority leader next year, he has said his first job will be the repeal of President Obama's health care reform act.
McConnell currently serves as a senior member of the Appropriations, Agriculture, and Rules Committees. He is the longest serving U.S. senator in Kentucky's history.
