Joe Lowe |
UPDATE, 12:05 p.m.: Townsquare Media's Ashley Sollars has this very nice tribute to Joe at WJLT's website. There's just not much I can add to that. Joe, we'll miss you, man.
There's very sad news to report from Owensboro this morning as longtime morning radio host Joe Lowe has lost his battle with esophageal cancer.
There's very sad news to report from Owensboro this morning as longtime morning radio host Joe Lowe has lost his battle with esophageal cancer.
Lowe, who was 60, had spent more than 45 years in radio, beginning as an intern at WVJS.
WOMI-1490 AM announced Lowe's death shortly before 8 a.m. this morning.
He had been diagnosed with cancer in August and began receiving treatments in September, and made it his mission to ensure that others didn't wait to be checked out, as he had.
"People need to get screened, because it's easier to treat cancer in Stage 1 than like me in Stage 4," Lowe told the Messenger-Inquirer recently. He also spoke of how important a support system is for those facing cancer. "I've had a lot of support from my wife, Kathy; my brother, Mike (Lowe); and my best friend, Jim Goode; and hundreds of other people who have said prayers for me and wishing me well, but not everybody has a support group like that. I think we need to organize something so that Mr. or Mrs. Smith doesn't have to go through chemo alone."
Rest in peace, Joe.
