There are several broadcasting stories of interest floating around the interwebs this morning; here are the ones I consider the most important:
SECOND PRESIDENTIAL DEBATE SET FOR TONIGHT
President Barack Obama and former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney will meet at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y. for the second of three Presidential debates. Candy Crowley of CNN will moderate tonight's debate, which will be in the town hall format. Citizens will ask questions of the candidates on foreign and domestic issues. Candidates each will have two minutes to respond, and an additional minute for the moderator to facilitate a discussion. The town meeting participants will be undecided voters selected by the Gallup Organization. The debate begins at 8 p.m. CT (9 ET) tonight and will air on the usual channels.
MOONVES EXTENDS CBS DEAL THROUGH JUNE '17
Les Moonves, CBS' president and CEO, has received a 2-year extension on his contract that will give him control over things through June 2017. His base salary won't go up, but he will have opportunities to receive bonuses. [TVNewsCheck]
KARDASHIAN TO BE A JUDGE ON 'THE X FACTOR'
Nope, not Kim. (Sorry.) Khloe Kardashian Odom will be the newest judge on Fox's The X Factor. I can sense that your enthusiasm is roughly equal to my own. [UPI]
JIMMY KIMMEL BOOKS LIFELONG IDOL DAVID LETTERMAN ON HIS SHOW
ABC late-night host Jimmy Kimmel will finally get to interview his idol. David Letterman, host of CBS' The Late Show with David Letterman, will appear on Jimmy Kimmel Live when the show airs from Brooklyn later this month. Kimmel will go head-to-head with his idol beginning in January when JKL moves to 10:35 p.m. CT (11:35 ET), swapping places with Nightline. [The Hollywood Reporter]
TINA FEY, AMY POEHLER TO HOST GOLDEN GLOBES
Two of America's favorite funny ladies will take over hosting duties for the 70th anniversary edition of the Golden Globes. Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, who are two of the only reasons NBC still exists, will host the show that's set to air on Jan. 13. They replace - at last - Ricky Gervais, who has inexplicably hosted the program for the past three years. [TVNewsCheck]
