Troy practice update, Aug. 5

Caught some practice on this lovely Sunday morning and the rest of the day has me centered around American Legion Baseball, as Dothan Post 12 needs to beat Tuscaloosa Post 34 twice to win the state championship over here at Riddle-Pace Field. Right now, Tuscaloosa is up 2-0 in the fourth.

No serious injuries yet. A few guys are out because of minor injuries. Some of those include OL Cody Woodiel, WR Chris Williams (ankle), DB Ethan Davis, LB Wayland Coleman-Dancer and others who are affected by the heat, as OL Zach Johnson was today, but no torn ligaments or broken bones so far. Troy suits up in full pads for the first time Monday and has 2-a-days on Tuesday and Thursday before the first scrimmage Saturday (also practices on WED/FRI).

***Senior running back Chris Anderson, Troy's third-leading rusher the past two years, is not with the team and isn't expected to be until school starts as he is dealing with a personal matter back home, coach Larry Blakeney said.

**The offense got the better of the defense today, especially on the ground game. This came after a couple of practices where the defense got the better of the offense.

**Of the young guys, WR Brandon Brooks looked good on a deep ball and made a great catch against great coverage by Shaq Beverly. Some DLs, like Xavier Melton, Derrek Upshaw and Marty Stadom, looked tough to stop in drills. You find out a lot more when pads get on.

Here are two videos with Blakeney and D.J. Taylor.
