Troy hoops got two more guard signees today from Pensacola Junior college - point guard Antione Myers and shooting guard Jeff Mullahey.
I'll profile Mullahey tomorrow but here's what Myers had to say about signing. For some background info on Myers, read THIS ARTICLE from the Baltimore Sun when he had originally committed to FIU.
"I really enjoyed being around the coaching staff and players," Myers said. "I felt comfortable with the coaches and they made me feel like I can talk to them about anything. I've got a teammate (Justin Wright) who is already at Troy and that wasn't the main reason I signed, but it played a part."
Myers said he is leaning towards majoring in computer science.
"It wasn't just about basketball when I went on my visit," Myers said. "It was about more than that. I enjoyed walking around the (new) arena. I really can't describe how I liked it. It was so much to see how it was built from the ground up."
Myers and Mullahey, who projects more as a shooting guard, were both first-team All-Panhandle Conference members. The 6-foot-3, 190-pound Myers will push returning starter Mo Weathers at the point guard spot. He was an all-conference selection in both of his years at PJC.
"My plan is to lead the team and get us into a lot of transition," Myers said. "We'll be uptempo and run & gun. We'll get it and go. I'm a defender and I'll lock down. I'm not just going to bring one thing to the table. I'm going to bring everything to the table."
Here's what PJC coach Pete Pena told the Baltimore Sun about Myers in March: "He’s been our point guard for the past two years,” Pena said. “He has just been outstanding, distributing the ball and attacking the basket, playing about 36 minutes every night. He’s got a motor that just doesn’t stop. He plays with passion and heart. We’re going to miss him very much. He’s going to be a very, very tough young man to replace in a lot of different ways – on and off the court."
