Troy adds point guard signee

Troy finished its five-player recruiting class with the signing of College of Central Florida point guard Hunter Williams.

Williams, 6-foot and 175 pounds, also took official visits to Jacksonville University and FIU, but chose Troy. He is from Ocala, Fla., and went to Forest High School. College of Central Florida is in Ocala.

"It looks like the right place for me where I can blend in academically and as a basketball player," Williams said Wednesday morning. "Coach (Don) Maestri is a guy I'd like to play hard for."

Williams started at point guard for two years and led the Patriots to a Florida state runner-up finish this year.Williams made the All-Mid Florida Conference first team this year. Williams was a key player on CF's run to the state title game. You can read a good bit of information on him at the CFPatriots.com label HERE on Williams throughout his career.

Williams averaged 11.8 points per game this year to go with 4.4 assists per game. As a freshman, Williams scored 10.4 ppg and had 3.7 apg.
"I don't want to say I'm a pure point guard, because I feel like I can shoot and score too," Williams said. "But I like to get other guys in spots where they can be successful and where they can score."

Troy head coach Don Maestri was pleased to add Williams to Troy's team for next season. He joins Pensacola State College guards Antione "Fresh" Myers and Jeff Mullahey, Hill College (Texas) wing player Tevin Calhoun and Brevard (Fla.) Community College center Josh Warren as Troy's recruiting class.

"He has a real complete game," Maestri said. "He can handle and pass the ball, and he's also a very good 3-point shooter. He's a hard-nosed, tough basketball player and one of the things I liked about him is his good basketball I.Q. We're very excited about this recruiting class. These guys have the chemistry we're looking for, and Hunter fits that bill."
