New radio network gearing up for Jan. 2 debut
CBS Sports Radio, the new 24/7 national sports network, will officially launch on more than 100 stations on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at midnight with Scott Ferrall's Ferrall on the Bench, followed by a complete lineup of hosts to interest sports fans across the country. The network's original programming is expected to reach more than ten million listeners upon launch.
It's not yet known if any local radio stations will be carrying CBS Sports Radio programming. Sports radio is a small but growing format here in the Tri-State, with just a handful of stations (one [WVLN] in Southeastern Illinois, one [WYFX] in Southwestern Indiana, and four in Western Kentucky [WMSK/AM, WTTL/AM, WNTC and WLME]) now broadcasting sports programming on a full-time basis. Those stations are currently affiliated with either Fox Sports (WVLN and WMSK/AM) or ESPN Radio (WYFX, WTTL/AM and WLME), with WNTC going a different route, simulcasting Nashville's Sportsradio station WNSR.
CBS Sports Radio offers something different, and perhaps we'll see one (or more) switch.
Here's the network's full schedule (all times Central):
