Super Bowl Update

As many of you have guessed by now, Eyewitness Sports' Home Team Friday is bringing back a familiar face - but not just as a special guest.  Former WEHT sports director Lance Wilkerson will be joining Eyewitness Sports anchor Drew Amman to co-host the half-hour highlight show all season long.

Wilkerson, who is now Director of Athletics Development at the University of Evansville (as well as the radio voice of the Purple Aces men's basketball team) said the decision to come back didn't take long to make.

"Bob Freeman (WEHT/WTVW's news director) called me on Tuesday and asked me if I would co-host HTF," he explained. "Bob and I worked well together and we have the same passion and drive. To me it was a no-brainer to reconnect with high school football."

After getting the go-ahead from his boss at UE, Wilkerson said things came together very quickly. "I am very excited to jump right back in and give it my all."

Home Team Friday won't be the only place you'll find Wilkerson on Fridays, though.

In addition to his day job at the University and his co-hosting gig on HTF, he's also preparing a new weekly radio show on WYFX-ESPN 106.7 that will air from 4 to 5 p.m. each Friday afternoon beginning Aug. 24.  The show, which will be called All About Aces Athletics, has been in the works for some time. "It is a show that Dan Egierski and I have been planning out for many months," Wilkerson said. "For an hour I will talk about the fourteen Division I sports at UE."

In addition, Wilkerson said he plans to attend one football game each Friday night throughout the season, so don't be surprised to see him around the Tri-State keeping up with what's happening on the gridiron.

There are rumors floating around today about the identity of a special guest on Friday's premiere edition of Home Team Friday on WEHT Local.

Several people have speculated with regard to the identity of the guest - the most oft-mentioned name is that of former WEHT sports director Lance Wilkerson - but at this point no one will confirm who it might be.

Fans of local high school football, take note:  WEHT Local and Local 7 WTVW - under the name of Your Sports Authority - have you covered this year.

Starting Aug. 17 (that's next Friday night), you'll be able to see nine regular-season Home Team Friday Games of the Week on Local 7.  The first game, between Reitz and Henderson County from Henderson will be tape-delayed and air after Eyewitness News at 9, but all other currently-scheduled games will air live.  (The schedule as it now stands is posted below.)

And of course, following the game each week, viewers will be able to tune in to WEHT Local after the 10 p.m. news for Home Team Friday to get all the scores and highlights from across the Tri-State.  HTF, as it has in past years, will air from 10:35 p.m. to 11:05 p.m.; Nightline will move to the slot immediately after Jimmy Kimmel Live on Friday nights during the season.
