NBC Sports Radio makes debut; three area stations pick up network's programming

WNTC gets whole weekday network package, while WTCJ and WYFX offer only select programming

The new NBC Sports Radio is making its debut across the country today with 178 affiliates, three of them in the Tri-State.  However, not all three will offer all the programming produced by the new network.

WNTC-103.9 FM (Drakesboro, Ky.) will offer the full weekday package - sports updates, The Erik Kuselias Show, Amani & Eytan and The Dan Schwartzman Show - but not Safety Blitz with Rodney Harrison, which will air on weekends.

The other area stations which are now part of the network include WYFX-106.7 FM (Mt. Vernon, Ind.), which will carry Harrison's weekend show, and WTCJ-1230 AM (Tell City, Ind.), which is slated to broadcast sports updates and Amani & Eytan.

The Eric Kuselias Show premieres tonight and will air from 6 to 9 p.m. CT.  Amani & Eytan, which is hosted by former NFL wide receiver Amani Toomer and Eytan Shander, is the network's late-night offering, airing from 9 p.m. to midnight CT.  The Dan Schwartzman Show airs overnights from midnight to 4 a.m. CT.

“This is a great day in sports radio and we’re proud to have 178 affiliates share it with us,” said Chris Corcoran, the network's executive VP and general manager. Our main goal from day one has been to deliver great content for radio stations and we are excited to finally hit the field and play.”

Outside the immediate Tri-State area, several other stations around the region will also carry either all or part of the NBC Sports Radio lineup.  They are:
  • WNDE-1260 AM (Indianapolis, Ind.)
  • KYRO-1280 AM and WPMB-1500 AM (St. Louis/Troy, Mo./Vandalia, Ill.)
  • WNSR-560 AM and WPTN-780 AM (Nashville/Brentwood/Cookeville, Tenn.)

HE'S BACK: Wilkerson returns to WEHT as Home Team Friday co-host

Lance Wilkerson
Aces' radio voice also preparing to launch Friday afternoon radio show on ESPN 106.7

As many of you have guessed by now, Eyewitness Sports' Home Team Friday is bringing back a familiar face - but not just as a special guest.  Former WEHT sports director Lance Wilkerson will be joining Eyewitness Sports anchor Drew Amman to co-host the half-hour highlight show all season long.

Wilkerson, who is now Director of Athletics Development at the University of Evansville (as well as the radio voice of the Purple Aces men's basketball team) said the decision to come back didn't take long to make.

"Bob Freeman (WEHT/WTVW's news director) called me on Tuesday and asked me if I would co-host HTF," he explained. "Bob and I worked well together and we have the same passion and drive. To me it was a no-brainer to reconnect with high school football."

After getting the go-ahead from his boss at UE, Wilkerson said things came together very quickly. "I am very excited to jump right back in and give it my all."

Home Team Friday won't be the only place you'll find Wilkerson on Fridays, though.

In addition to his day job at the University and his co-hosting gig on HTF, he's also preparing a new weekly radio show on WYFX-ESPN 106.7 that will air from 4 to 5 p.m. each Friday afternoon beginning Aug. 24.  The show, which will be called All About Aces Athletics, has been in the works for some time. "It is a show that Dan Egierski and I have been planning out for many months," Wilkerson said. "For an hour I will talk about the fourteen Division I sports at UE."

In addition, Wilkerson said he plans to attend one football game each Friday night throughout the season, so don't be surprised to see him around the Tri-State keeping up with what's happening on the gridiron.
