I'll post scoring updates on this blog post and if anyone has comments, fire away and I will try to answer them.
FIRST QUARTER
1 - T - 11:52 - Troy gets a 44-yard FG from Will Scott after Trojans stuffed UAB on 4th and 1 at UAB's 45. Troy up 3-0
1 - T - 1:19 - Troy gets a 1-yard TD run by Shawn Southward. Trojans had to punt, but rugby punt hit a UAB player and Jacoby Thomas recovered at the UAB 36. All rushing for Trojans to get the ball in. Troy up 10-0.
END FIRST QUARTER, Troy up 10-0
SECOND QUARTER
2 - T - 12:08 - Trojans go 80 yards in 4 plays, a wide open Chip Reeves catches a 55-yard TD pass from Corey Robinson. Troy 17, UAB 0
*Troy also had a drive go from its 2 after a recovered fumble inside the UAB 5, but lost a fumble.Personal foul on Albert gave UAB 15 more yards.
2 - U - 0:34 - After that said turnover, UAB drives down and Jonathan Perry hits Greg Franklin on a 21-yard TD pass. Blazers having no trouble through the air right now. Troy 17, UAB 7.
HALFTIME SCORE TROY 17 UAB 7
*UAB recovers onside kick to start 2nd half at the Troy 45. It monsooned at halftime. It's still raining.
3 - U - 13:31 - 9-yard TD run by UAB's Jackson to cut score to Troy 17, UAB 14
3 - T - 5:15 - Troy gets 2 points as UAB punt snap goes well high and out of end zone. Marty Stadom had a TFL and sack on UAB's 3 and out drive where backup QB Austin Brown was in for injured Jon Perry.
*Troy's Shawn Southward lost a fumble at his own 22-yard line. After the safety, Troy had to start at its own 10 because of a block in the back. Perry is back at QB.
3 - U - 3:20 - UAB's Ty Long hits a 27-yard FG. Nice stop for Trojans to just hold to a FG. Troy up 19-17.
3 - T - 1:22 - Southward scores on a 7-yard TD run which was set up by his 55-yard run on first play. Huge run for the senior after his key fumble. PAT blocked. Troy 25, UAB 17.
END THIRD QUARTER, SCORE TROY 25, UAB 17
4 - U - 12:15 - Jon Perry 1-yard TD after a huge pass interference call against Troy on a 3rd and 11 incomplete. 25-25 as the Blazers hit the 2-point pass. Then it was reviewed and called a non-catch. Troy 25 UAB 23.
* De'Von Terry comes up with a big INT at the 7:25 mark. Terry, a senior who I don't think has ever played before, has a FR and an INT.
4 - T - 6:53 - BJ Chitty 25 pass from Robinson, after Robinson hit Reeves for 55. Reeves has 6 catches for 125. Troy leads 32-23.
4 - T - 5 yard TD run from Southward, 1 play after Tyler Roberts forced a fumble and Tony Davis recovered inside the 10. Troy 39, UAB 23.
4 - U - Perry to Nelson for TD pass from 24 yards out, but Troy's Zach Miller INTs the 2 point play. Troy 39 UAB 29 with 3:45 left.
Shawn Southward ran for a career-high 204 yards and three touchdowns as Troy defeated UAB 39-29.
Troy’s win spoiled the head coaching debut for UAB’s Garrick McGee. UAB quarterback Jonathan Perry threw for 307 yards and two touchdowns but had two costly turnovers in the fourth quarter. Both led to Troy touchdowns.
With Troy up 25-23, De’Von Terry intercepted a Perry pass and Troy capped it off with a 25-yard touchdown pass from Corey Robinson to B.J. Chitty. On UAB’s first play of the next drive, Perry was hit by Troy’s Tyler Roberts and fumbled. Tony Davis recovered inside the 10-yard line.
After an unsportsmanlike conduct penalty against UAB, Southward scored from 5 yards out.
Troy’s Robinson hit 12 of 21 passes for 184 yards and two touchdowns. Receiver Chip Reeves had six catches for a career-high 125 yards and a 55-yard touchdown reception.
