Tuesday notes: Ole Miss coming to Troy for hoops

*** Did get confirmation that Ole Miss will be coming to Troy, but it'll be in basketball. The Rebels play at Trojan Arena in the 2013-14 season. That's a good home opponent for Troy, which hosts Mississippi State this upcoming season in hoops. A non-conference home game with Georgia State for 2011-12 has also been finalized, and there may be more by this point as coach Don Maestri told me about GSU more than a month ago.

*** Troy's final spring scrimmage/practice is at 10 a.m. Saturday. Troy sports information guru Adam Prendergast says it'll be a half-fundamentals, half-scrimmage practice (no referees). Not sure if I will hold a live chat or not.

*** Troy hosts Jacksonville State tonight in basketball. William Teal gets the start on the mound for Troy, which won big at JSU earlier this year and is looking to get back on the winning side after six straight losses. Seems like Troy has spent a lot of time on the road this year, but four of the final six Sun Belt series are at home, beginning with Middle Tennessee this weekend. Teal hasn't pitched a whole lot in his career at Troy, but he's a local kid (Charles Henderson High) and battling his way back from Tommy John surgery a couple of years ago.

I'll be at that game and will provide some updates, though it may be later into the game as I will also be at football practice and I am not sure if they will overlap.

*** Some more good coverage on Georgia State to the Sun Belt from the AJC, which you can read HERE. That's another big paper and several TV stations from a large market that will mention other Sun Belt schools as well.

*** Not all bad news for Sun Belt basketball teams these days. Tony Mitchell, the most talented player in the Sun Belt as a freshman last year, is returning for his sophomore season in North Texas. He could have been an NBA first-round pick. That just makes the Mean Green more loaded, as you'll read in Brett Vito's blog.
