Super Bowl Update

Briefly spoke with Larry Blakeney today, as it's the first day of classes. He was knee deep in stuff that head coaches are usually at this time of the year, but a couple of tidbits.

**A couple of guys are out due to grades: defensive end Xavian Evans, who played a little bit last year as a JUCO signee, and cornerback D.J. Jones, who had transferred in from junior college but then found out he was a class short and couldn't play last year.

**Tight end Gavin Ellis is transferring to Jacksonville State to play his final two years. Good kid from a good family and he'll have a chance to get on the field more as an actual tight end since JSU uses the tight end more. I got the feeling he was torn about leaving Troy but wanted to get a shot to play more.

**Blakeney said a couple more guys may be leaving, but he didn't have names or know anything more, but I don't believe it to be any returning starters or guys that played a lot last year. They have their back to school team meeting tomorrow.

**No timetable on hiring Mo Crain's replacement, also no decision yet from defensive end Jonathan Massaquoi on if he'll go pro or not. Has till Jan. 15 to decide.
