COMMENTARY: Couric's fans take to Twitter in effort to #BringKatieToEvansville

Twitter hashtag campaign started in an effort to bring show to Evansville TV

WAWV. WHAS11. WSIL. WNKY-CBS. KMOV. WSMV.

Those are a few of the stations around the region which will air Katie Couric's new ABC-produced self-titled talk show, which premieres this afternoon.

You'll note that none of these stations are located in Evansville.

Instead, Evansville's ABC affiliate, WEHT Local, will air The Jeff Probst Show.  Now, in my opinion, Probst is a good guy, but why WEHT would choose his program over something the network came along with is beyond me, especially when so many other stations around us were eager to get on board with Katie.

Even a spot on Local 7 WTVW would've worked.

But, incredibly, Katie's nowhere to be found if all you get is Evansville local channels.

I'm not alone in wondering why she's not here.  Several readers have expressed dismay that they won't get the chance to watch the show, so they've created a Twitter hashtag: #BringKatieToEville.

My feeling is that it's worth a shot to draw some attention to the situation, so I've joined up.  Would you like to watch Katie?  If you're on Twitter, use the hashtag above.  If you're on Facebook, leave a message on my page.  You can also email me or leave a comment below.  I'll get them all together and we'll see what kind of demand there is.

Hopefully it'll make something happen.

Best Tweet of the Year (re Obama no less) may've come from someone I'm generally blah towards - Ari Fleischer.

I first noticed it Saturday night on the Washington Post's Jennifer Rubin's Twitter page: http://twitter.com/JRubinBlogger

Saturday night, if I'm home, is one of the times during the week when I double-check on reporters, columnists and pundits that I might've missed during the

The curious case of Broward County Comm. candidate Marty Kiar's Tweets, which, for me, are more revealing for what they DON'T say

Above, the cover of Broward County Commission candidate Marty Kiar's recent four-page direct mail to NW Broward County voters. If you think that a mailing with this cover would be light on ideas or issues, esp. those involving the County Commission, the group he wants to join, you'd be right. But then have you read his tweets?

Over the past nine months, for the most part, if you didn't know

Shouldn't actual "facts" matter to journalists even in their Tweets, or, is it every man for themself to get Followers? Just saying...

Below is a copy of a pithy email about last night's GOP presidential debate in South Carolina that I sent out to some media friends and acquaintances across the country last night.Likely, during a timeout of a college football game I was watching. That is, unless it was while I was watching Four Weddings and a Funeral for about the 50th time. What can I say, I've always been a Hugh Grant fan, and
