As I suspected in July, the FCC has approved the request of Sunrise, Fla.-based DTV America Corporation and has issued a construction permit for the company to build a digital low-power TV station on channel 12 in Evansville.
The station was also given the call sign W12DN-D.
If W12DN-D is built, it will broadcast from South Central Media's tower on Mt. Auburn Rd. next to the radio company's studios, covering an area from far eastern White Co., Ill. to Tennyson, Ind. west to east, and from Princeton, Ind. to roughly the Ohio River north to south.
It's unclear what type of programming the station will broadcast.
DTV America isn't just getting approval to build in Evansville - it's received FOUR construction permits for Cape Girardeau, Mo., too. Those permits will allow the company to build stations on channels 24 through 26 and also on channel 30 (K24KY-D, K25NS-D, K26ME-D and K30NE-D).
All would broadcast from an AT&T communications tower near Marble Hill in Bollinger Co., Mo. K24KY and K26ME would be 10 kW stations, while K25NS and K30NE would be 15 kW. All would cover an area between Perryville, Mo. to the north and Crowley's Ridge Conservation Area to the south and from Fredericktown, Mo. to the west and the Mississippi River to the east.
It's not yet known what would be on those stations, either.
