DITKA: Feeling "fine" after minor stroke |
"I feel good right now and it's not a big deal."
That's the word from former Chicago Bears coach and current ESPN commentator Mike Ditka to the Chicago Tribune Friday night after the Hall of Famer suffered what doctors are calling a "very minor" stroke earlier in the day.
Ditka, 73, was taken to an undisclosed Chicago-area hospital after falling ill while playing cards at a suburban country club. The Sun-Times reports that Ditka told columnist Rick Telander that he is doing "fine" and will be staying in the hospital overnight.
ESPN's Seth Markman tweeted that Ditka will not appear on the network this weekend. However, if Ditka is true to form, he'll be back at work fairly soon; Bears fans may remember that, when Ditka suffered a heart attack while coaching the Bears in 1988, he was back in his office a week later and on the sidelines within two weeks.
