"Magic 98.5" finally takes to the airwaves, at least for now - but where its transmitter is located is a mystery
If you've been flipping the radio dial and landed on something different at 98.5 on the FM band this week in Evansville, that's evidently intentional.
WEOA has been testing its new FM translator at low power since at least Monday, and the Evansville-area members of the RadioDiscussions.com Indiana board say they're able to get W253BF (the translator's official call sign) as intended.
It's not immediately known where the translator's transmitter is located. The station's permit indicates that it's to use the old tower at WFIE-TV's Mt. Auburn Road studios, but the latest word is that no such equipment has been placed there. The same goes for WEOA's own tower on South Weinbach Avenue. (So where's it coming from? Anyone?)
I'm also told that the station has been handing out Munchie Maps at the West Side Nut Club Fall Festival with a new logo that reads "Magic 98.5" and not the traditional "1400 The Pump". I've yet to personally see one of these, but I'll share it as soon as I do.
