Troy picked up a commitment Wednesday when Saraland tight end Wyndell Archie committed to Troy.
"I had been looking at Troy for a long time," Archie said. "I talked to coach (Randy) Butler about how they would use me in the offense and he had a good answer for me. They also have what I want to major in, which is Environmental Science."
Archie, 6-foot-3 and 235 pounds, plays a number of roles for Saraland, which is near Mobile. He said he plays tight end, fullback, running back and wide receiver and will likely end up in that tight end/inside receiver role at Troy.
Archie had offers from UL-Lafayette, Alabama State and Alabama A&M as well as Troy. He said he would visit Troy's prospect camp on July 25th, and has made trips to Troy in the past.
"I'm a guy that gives it my all on the field," Archie said. "I try not to leave nothing behind."
Archie said he's one of five seniors for a talented but young Saraland team. The school had its first graduating class this year.
"I thought Troy was a really good for me and I liked how they wanted to use me," Archie said. "I've been to Troy a few times and thought it was the right time."
