Super Bowl Update

HERE is what I wrote from the Hall of Fame announcement. It was great to see Larry Blakeney, Don Maestri and Sim Byrd there. I hear so much about how Byrd's team, under coach Billy Adkins, was so far ahead of the time offensively and would love to sit down and watch a game tape, if one exists.

HERE is my game story from Troy's 9-7 loss to UAB. Defensive lapses were key, and the Trojans continue to pile up errors while working through it and trying to find the right combination. Good to see some young players from the Wiregrass get some big hits - Jake Harrell with his first career home run and Jo-El Bennett with a pinch-hit double. I think this team will end up being pretty good offensively, but will have to improve defensively and improve on the mound beyond guys like Ray, Hodgskin, Hill, Workman & Austin - five veterans.

Troy plays East Carolina tonight at 6. I won't be able to make it, but you should go. ECU is always a regional contender and the Pirates are 8-2. Stats HERE.

Pierce said at about 9:30 p.m. that he hadn't decided on a starting pitcher for the game. I think it'll have to be a collective effort with guys like A.J. Howard, Cass Abercrombie, William Teal, Joe Hernandez, and another arm or two.

ECU's team ERA is 1.20 but that schedule doesn't look real strong.
