March Madness 2012: Round 2 Casualty Report

(it takes two images to display all the carnage.)

Well, we got through Round 2 and things could be worse, but they could also be better. There's a lot of red of red dashes slicing through the bracket. The first day went pretty much as it could be expected to go. I took a couple wrong turns but the outcomes were not unbelievable. Yesterday was when the blood really began to flow and it could not be staunched. Duke! Missouri! Both gone.

Hindsight is, of course, 20/20. What was I doing banking on a deep run by UConn and UNLV and Michigan? These seem like a fool's choices now. I should've predicted more upsets! And I should've known better than to bet against VCU in the opening round after last year's run. But UConn WON last year and now look at them! You can never know for sure. That's what makes it so exciting!

As it stands in the NCAA bracket challenge, I have 23 Points, I'm ranked 105515 (which doesn't really mean much unless they tell me how many total entries there are) but that I'm also currently hovering in the 75th percentile. This is not bad. 3 of my 4 final four teams remain alive as do 6 of my elite 8 and 11 of my sweet 16. So we'll see what befalls in the Third Round and hope that for this St. Patrick's Day, the luck of the Irish is on my side!
