Picked one game to cover during the midweek and it turned out being the wrong one, but Troy had a big rebound win tonight against a very good East Carolina club, 8-2.
Cass Abercrombie delivers a pitch against ECU/Edward Fieder - Troy University |
Throwing for six innings, he was pretty good. Covering high school sports in the Wiregrass, I saw Abercrombie play a few times for G.W. Long, and it was after his junior year in 2008, that summer, that I saw him pitch for the Cardinals against the East Alabama A's. Abercrombie pitched well, as you can read FROM THIS OLD GAME STORY and his summer coach, Sammy Frichter, really thought he had a future as a pitcher. I don't know if he's throwing 9-0 or not right now, but he's off to a good start. You see another couple of current Troy names in that game story from four years ago.

Another positive was the 0 errors that Troy committed. Troy shook things up a little, moving Danny Collins to DH and putting in Austin Golden at third. We'll see how long that sticks.
The back-end rotation of Thomas Austin, Nate Hill and Tyson Workman were flawless. Troy hosts Monmouth in a 3-game set this weekend.
