Saturday links

Got a few things of interest to share for the weekend.

I did go to Pro Day, and HERE is the story I wrote on it.

Troy had an interesting baseball game on Friday, winning 6-5 on Jakob Nixon's RBI single in the bottom of the ninth. Nixon wasn't even supposed to start, but was inserted at the last minute after Tyler Vaughn apparently got hurt or couldn't go. He hadn't played in a couple of weeks, but made the most of his start.

I did see the first three innings. Troy led 5-2 in the eighth, and Troy should have gotten the win for Tyler Ray, but Monmouth got some runs off Nate Hill and Tyson Workman.  Ray is 2-0, but should be 4-0.

Game recap HERE and box score HERE. Nixon and Logan Pierce had two hits each, and Danny Collins had three hits. Collins nearly had an inside-the-park home run in the first inning. He hit a line shot to center, which the CF dove for and missed. It was a pretty exciting play, but Collins got thrown out at the plate. The throw beat him, and it also looked like he got his hand on the plate under the tag.

Troy's first four weeks of baseball has brought in some good challenges. Monmouth won the Northeast Conference last year and Central Michigan was predicted to win its MAC division. Southern Miss is always good and Bethune-Cookman has been to regionals the last several years. Troy should have beaten UAB, if not for the errors, and did beat Samford, as well as East Carolina - another perennial regional team.

Troy plays Monmouth again tonight at 6. I'll be at a wedding today so may not be able to update the game on here until later Sunday night.

Troy is on Spring Break next week before Spring Practice begins a week from Sunday. Did get to ask coach Larry Blakeney if a new assistant had been hired. Nothing confirmed on my end yet, since I can't use anonymous sources, but should have something official this week, but feel good in saying Troy looked all over the country for candidates.
