Back on the blog after recovering from a 24-hour virus that made me feel deathly ill for, well, 24 hours, on Saturday, and a desk shift on Sunday.
**Odd weekend for Troy baseball, losing two of three to Monmouth. Monmouth is certainly better than most northern teams and should win the Northeast Conference like it did last year, but if you're a southern team, you don't want to lose these types of series. Will be interesting to see what coach Bobby Pierce has to say about it, and how the Trojans prepare for the weekend series at South Alabama.

Saturday recap HERE and HERE.
***Hated to see Troy women's basketball coach Michael Murphy lose his job. I don't really cover women's basketball any more, just focusing on football, baseball and men's basketball along with other duties at the Eagle, but hard to not know what was going on. Murphy is a favorite among the community, he'd give anyone the shirt off his back and is just generally a great guy. His teams battled more injuries than college teams do - of his 16 players, 13 missed at least 2 weeks of practice or game time, and his best players couldn't even practice because of injuries, but still played through it. He also didn't get much support in that he only had 2 full-time assistants, while other Sun Belt schools had 3 full-time assistants. His players stayed out of trouble and graduated. But, when you look at just 2 wins this year and 5 last year, that's usually the bottom line.
