Easter Birds
3 Challenges in One Card
Easter Tree
Speaking of birthdays . . . It's Mine!
I really was blessed with a full mailbox of beautiful cards from my friends from the Stamp Shack. Here are their creations:
The adorable fish card is from Chelsea C, , IL. The card on the right is from Donna C, GA. I love all the texture.
The first card is from Amy S, MI. I love the colors. The card on the right is from Sarah P, Western Australia. I love the butterfly sentiment.
I LOVE the colors of both of these cards. The one on the right is from Cathi C, IL. I love the sparkle around the sentiment. The card on the right is from Thanh V, British Columbia. I love the bg paper with the image.
The next two cards were hand drawn by my niece. She has a handy trick: when you want to draw flamingo legs, just make the number 4. She thought she was pretty clever to draw a bat and call me "Beather."
I love the shrinkydink hat from Pat G, British Columbia. On the right is a really pretty card from JP, England. It came in a fun home-made envelope.
This fun card from Nancy F.,MD. My niece says it is her favorite and the "funnest card ever." On the right is an adorable card from Cheri S., FL. I LOVE all the polka dots.
My friend Joanie M, MA must know I love Elzybells, the color combo pink and green, AND polka dots. Love it! The card on the right is a beautifully colored gatefold card from Jan E., CA.
The candle card is from Joanne D, TN. We've been swapping cards for a few years now. She is so sweet she even sent a little goodie. The card on the right is from my French Canadian friend, Pascale S. I think I'm going to have to borrow this layout sometime.
I love the bright colors and fun fold from this card from Mary C, AZ. The last card is from my friend Heather S, UT. I think she used resist emboss. I don't know but it looks cool.
Thank you ladies. You made my day. Tomorrow I'll post an Easter treat for y'all.
Lucky Tiki
So remember that week a couple of weeks ago when I was winning blog candy left and right? Well, I also won Barb's Bingo. My prize was a gift certificate to Jessica Lynn Originals. I ordered these fun Tiki stamps. They remind me of when I lived in Hawaii. Thanks Barb. This was my second order from Jessica Lynn and she is wonderful to work with. She has some really fun stamps for dog lovers.
ETA: Jessica Lynn added an extra monkey stamp. It is so cute, he is flying a kite. Thanks Jessica!

It's Strawberry Season
It's true. The roadside stands that sell strawberries in town are open for business. Love it.
This is a simple card that I made using DCWV papers and justjohanna stamps. I love these papers because they are thick and sparkly. Here's the trick for paper piecing the strawberries: 1. stamp the strawberry pair on green patterned paper 2. stamp again onto red pp 3. cut out the entire strawberry outline on the green paper 4. cut out only the red berries and adhere them onto the green cut outs.
I cut out the strawberries separately so I could pop up the top strawberry. I used the justjohanna Happy Birthday sentiment but the images are pretty neutral for other occasions.
Dog Lover Post
Then, I took Moses to the Moe Toys for the dog toy warehouse sale. We had fun except Moses got car sick on the way home.
Okay fellow dog lovers, please post a comment below with a favorite dog memory. I'll do a random draw on Friday and will send two posters a homemade goodie (no, it's not edible).
Notes About Posting In Online Galleries
Online galleries are a great place to find creative inspiration. It's also a great place to share your talent and make friends. I've been posting my projects in online galleries for years and I love leaving praise on my fellow crafters' posts. Here are some tips for good posting and some galleries that I know about. And, please feel free to leave a comment and ask questions or leave suggestions.
Posting tips:
- Write a catchy title that describes your theme or technique that you used.
- If you are posting something with several pictures like an inside/outside view of a card, try to post in as few posts as possible. Some galleries allow you to post multiple pages.
- Post good pictures. If you scan pictures, crop out the extra stuff and make sure to rotate it so it's facing the right direction.
- Write a description of your project including supplies and techniques used.
- Give credit where credit is due. If you used a sketch or "borrowed" someone's idea, give them the credit and a link to their original post.

Sunrise, Elements and More Z's
I just want to start out saying this; the best greasy spoon type breakfast--eggs, bacon, hash browns and toast (or biscuits) that I have found is Sunrise Cafe. I go to the one on 82nd Street near Kohl's but I think there are one or two other locations. They have the hash browns I really like that are shredded and not cubed (which should be home fries, not called hash browns anyway). On a weekend morning, it may be crowded, but on one of those days when you had a light dinner or maybe drank a little too much the night before, it is the best choice I have found so far. The decor is strange to me for a breakfast place (sports, sports and more sports--did this place used to be a sports bar or what?). But it is Indiana I guess.
****ED NOTE: AS OF APRIL 2009, ELEMENTS IS CLOSED.
Ok, now I have to give a glowing review to Elements. I think this is one of the top restaurants in our fair city. I will say the first couple of times I went there maybe a year and a half to 2 years ago, I had some meals that were just ok, and some items that were really good. But the last few times I have been there in the last year, the entire experience has been amazing. The chef works with seasonal ingredients and mixes it up quite a bit. This is one of the only places in town that has salads that are different from the standards you see everywhere (anyone for a spinach salad or lettuce wedge?) and they are GREAT! I love a salad with varying flavors and textures and a little tang. This time it was watercress with pea shoots, cremini mushrooms, parmesan and truffle vinaigrette. Yum. Last time I had one with apples, pine nuts and endive and a vinaigrette that was simply amazing. I opted for a steak this time (I usually get fish here because it is always good) and it was great. It was a ribeye which can be a bit fatty for me but the mushrooms and fingerlings with it were great. It had a great red wine butter on it that wasn't too over the top. Hubby had fish--striped bass--and it was also great. I had several bites.
The other thing I like about Elements in the interior--it is not as stark and some around here and the colors are warm reds and oranges. Great art too. A very pleasant experience. FYI, our favorite table is #7 (for 2 anyway). It is on the end of the banquette but still in the middle of the restaurant. You can hear your dinner mate and still enjoy being in a restaurant with other people. Or if it isn't cold and you want maximum privacy, get the one behind the door.
Now, on a down note, we went back to Z's Oyster Bar and Steakhouse. While the food remains very good, we were there on a Saturday night and the placed was slammed which is good for them, but the service severely suffered. We started out ok, but by the end of the meal, it had gotten ridiculous. And we were seated in the bar even with a reservation which is very dark and noisy--not so good for a party trying to talk to each other (there were 6 of us) or read a menu. Again, the food was again good (except skip the "Derby Souffle'" unless you want a dessert that tastes like a shot of bourbon.) We probably would not have even gotten dessert except we had ordered in advance to get the souffle'--it was so late and we had been there so long by that point. It was very disappointing considering they assign 2 people to each table to take care of service. The owner was making the round and spoke to us a couple of times. Their business is doing well, but they really need to work out some kinks I think. I am not even going to talk too much about the food as I basically ordered the same thing to see if it was as good the second time. It mainly was, but one thing about the walu (butterfish), if you order it, I would request a piece that is from the thin end of the fillet as it seems to have much more flavor. Hubby ordered the oysters Rockefeller and was quite disappointed--the oysters were very small and there was way too much topping for such a small amount of oyster--he had to dig them out. He is convinced Sullivan's has the best Oysters Rockefeller in this city (even though I think the rest of their food is generally average). If anyone has any suggestions to this end, please let me know!
On a sad note, I hear the Glass Chimney and Deeter's is closing in April. While the decor was in desperate need of an update, the food is good. Very good. Let's just hope someone starts a new generation of a chef-owned restaurant and not another chain....

February Sketch Cards
I've gotta be honest. When I first got a sneak peek of the February justjohanna newsletter sketch, I was clueless. Something about those diagonal lines just stressed me out. Then, I pulled out my cute diagonally striped note cards from the Target Dollar Spot and I knew I could handle the sketch. Other papers are also Dollar Spot. Cookie Sheet Valentine Count Down Calendar
This is a 14 day cookie sheet advent calendar. I started with an inexpensive cookie sheet that I spray painted red and flecked with pink paint. Using the Crop-a-dile, I punched holes in the top and bottom for ribbon (American Arts and unknown). I made the grid using Microsoft Word. The scalloped strip was made with My Mind's Eye paper and my dot sticker method. The lacy white strip was made using a Fiskars border punch. Each magnetic number has a stamped image and Dymo Label Maker number. I also used metal rimmed tags, wooden squares, puzzle piece, wooden and ceramic heart and chipboard piece. Colored with Marvy and Tombow markers. All images and sentiments are from Odd Bird Planet:
