UPDATED: NFL preseason games cause news changes for WEHT, WTVW
UPDATE, 1:20 p.m. THURSDAY: World News will be preempted on WEHT. Eyewitness News will air at 5. I've corrected that below.
Football fans will find much to like Thursday evening on WEHT Local and Local 7 WTVW, but news viewers will want to take note of some changes to accommodate the action on the gridiron.
Football fans will find much to like Thursday evening on WEHT Local and Local 7 WTVW, but news viewers will want to take note of some changes to accommodate the action on the gridiron.
Both stations will air preseason games, with Local 7 carrying the Colts/Bengals and Titans/Saints games and WEHT carrying the Rams/Ravens game.
The games will cause some shifts for the stations' newscasts. Eyewitness News will not be seen at 5 or 6 p.m. on WEHT Local, nor at 6:30 or 9 on Local 7. Instead, there will be a newscast at 5:30 on Local 7, and ABC World News will air on WEHT at 5 p.m. - the latter a half-hour earlier than usual.
The 4, 5 and 10 p.m. newscasts on WEHT will air at their regular times.
KICKOFF TIME: Titans vs. Seahawks, Colts vs. Rams to air on Local 7 this weekend
Football season is one of the most treasured sports seasons in the Tri-State, and as we press onward toward that great time of the year, we'll get to see what the teams look like - particularly the new-look Colts and Rams - as the NFL preseason is about to get underway.
This weekend, Local 7 WTVW will bring two big games involving three teams from our part of the country to your TV, and there is word this afternoon from sources in the know who tell me that both of the games will be broadcast in high definition.
First up, on Saturday night, is the game between the Tennessee Titans and the Seattle Seahawks. That game will air at 9 p.m. CT.
Then, on Sunday afternoon, it's the Indianapolis Colts vs. the St. Louis Rams from Indianapolis at 12:30 p.m. CT.
Looking ahead to next week, Local 7 will also air the Titans vs. Tampa Bay on Friday night, Aug. 17 (6:30 p.m. CT) and the Rams vs. the Kansas City Chiefs on Saturday, Aug. 18. The Rams' pregame show starts at 6:30 p.m., followed by the game at 7 p.m.

IF YOU LIVE ELSEWHERE IN THE AREA: Local 7 won't be the only station airing the Titans on Saturday night. If you live south of the WTVW coverage area, WKRN-2 in Nashville will also carry the game. As for the Colts/Rams game, outside the immediate Evansville area, that game will also air on WTWO-NBC 2 (Terre Haute), KTVI-Fox 2 (St. Louis), KFVS 12.2/WQWQ/WQTV (Cape Girardeau/Paducah/Murray) and WMYO-My58 (Louisville).

- Local 7 WTVW (Evansville)
- WAWV-ABC (Terre Haute)
- WMYO-My58 (Louisville)
PREVIOUSLY: Three of the Indianapolis Colts' preseason games will be televised this year, beginning with the Aug. 12 game between the Colts and the St. Louis Rams.
NFL Network (which is now, unfortunately, no longer available to a large number of cable customers in our neck of the woods) will broadcast the Colts/Rams game (which, as I told you yesterday, will also be carried on Local 7 WTVW, KFVS 12.2/WQWQ and KTVI-Fox 2, but from the Rams' side of the coin) as well as the team's third preseason game against the Washington Redskins on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 3 p.m. CT.
NBC will televise the second game at Pittsburgh against the Steelers on Sunday Night Football on Aug. 19 at 7 p.m. CT.
The Colts' fourth and final preseason game, against the Cincinnati Bengals at home, will not be televised.
All preseason games will be carried on the radio by the Vectren Radio Network, and you can find a list of those stations on JDTVB's Sports page in the Colts section.
